Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY A leadership role focused on external engagement to identify collaborative scientific and drug discovery opportunities that support Pfizer’s Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU).   This role will actively engage with academic institutions to identify compelling opportunities for collaboration on emerging science and early stage drug discovery programs focusing in the areas of obesity, cachexia, cardiovascular disease and renal disease. Through extensive outreach and networking in the scientific community, it is anticipated that this role will create, champion and manage a portfolio of collaborative projects that supports the IMRU strategic objectives.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Focus on identifying, implementing and managing high profile collaborative academic partnerships that advance the IMRU therapeutic strategy and complement internal portfolio projects.
  • Advance IMRU scientific and drug discovery capabilities through identification and partnering of novel, scientific technologies that enable the identification and/or prosecution of high value therapeutic targets. 
  • Represent the IMRU to external collaboration partners and serve as a networker who forges strong relationships with academic centers to attract ideas and catalyze new ways of thinking about scientific problems.
  • Function as an interface between the IMRU, Business Development (BD) and Discovery Network to help IMRU scientists navigate collaborations and maximize return on investments in external science. 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD with 9-14 years experience in relevant Internal Medicine-based scientific discipline(s)
  • Understanding of metabolic disease biology particularly obesity, cachexia, cardiovascular disease and/or renal disease.
  • Strong track record of managing and delivering results from complex alliances between academic and industry stakeholders
  • Experience developing collaborative research plans with milestone-based incentives
  • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings and complex, strategic conversations.
  • Strong leadership and presentation and skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in business development and/or academic technology transfer transactions
  • Track record of successfully working effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Entrepreneurial thinking coupled with strong organization skills.
  • Demonstrated success in negotiating the environment of a highly matrix-based organization

Some travel required; up to 20%

Relocation support available.
Work Location Assignment:  Cambridge, MA or Groton, CT. This is a Pfizer site based position on average 2.5 days/week in the office.


The annual base salary for this position ranges from $149,200.00 to $248,600.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
