Summary

The Department of Medicine is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced financial professional to join our dynamic team as the Senior Manager for Financial Planning and Analysis. This is a critical leadership position within our department, where you will play an integral role in managing and optimizing our $320 million operating budget. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in financial management, exceptional analytical skills, and a proven ability to drive financial strategies in a complex organizational environment.The Department of Medicine is a highly complex and matrixed organization which encompasses 14 academic sections, over 1,600 faculty and staff, and an operating budget in excess of $320M. This role is solely focused on the finance function in the department of medicine.

As the Senior Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing comprehensive financial planning, analysis, and reporting activities that support the department's strategic objectives. Your expertise will be crucial in guiding financial decision-making processes, identifying opportunities for cost savings, and ensuring the efficient allocation of resources. You will collaborate closely with senior leadership, providing insightful financial forecasts, risk assessments, and performance evaluations to drive sustainable growth and operational excellence.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid work arrangement within the Greater Houston, TX area.

Job Duties

  • Manages the budgeting process, including forecasting, variance analysis, and long-term financial planning for the department.
  • Develops and maintains financial models that support strategic initiatives and operational decisions.
  • Manages and coordinates month end close and reporting.
  • Provides actionable insights through detailed financial analysis, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Reviews, monitors, and approves expenditures at the department level to ensure compliance with policy and funding guidelines.
  • Works closely with section administrators to monitor and manage financial performance, ensuring alignment with overall departmental goals.
  • Leads a team of financial analysts, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
  • Highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues.
