Patient Transporter- Internal Transports

As a Patient Transporter, you will play an essential role in helping patients receive the care they need. You will quickly become familiar with all areas of the hospital while leaving lasting impressions on our patients and visitors.

A caregiver in this position works varying shifts, which could include days, evenings and nights. Caregivers in this position will also work rotating weekends and holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas using wheelchairs, stretchers or beds, including patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips and special equipment.

  • Transfer patients to and from beds, wheelchairs or stretchers.

  • Transport patients during discharge to the hospital lobby.

  • Ensure proper oxygen levels in tanks before transporting patients.

  • Approach and aid patients and visitors.

  • Verify and confirm standard precautions and correct patient identification by comparing information from the pager and patient wristband to obtain the correct medical chart and verify proper mode of transportation.

  • Disinfect and maintain equipment.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Ability to work a variable schedule, including weekends and holidays

  • Previous healthcare and or customer service experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Full range of body motion including handling of patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination

  • Normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range

  • Working with some exposure to communicable disease

  • Heavy work, exerting 50 to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 lbs. of force

  • Constantly moving objects

  • Physical demand requirements in excess of those for Medium Work

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
