Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll subject matter expert to join our team. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the successful candidate will possess extensive knowledge and expertise in Workday end-to-end payroll processing, including compliance with multi-state labor laws and regulations. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of garnishments, voluntary deductions, and the unique taxation of Nonresident Alien employees. Additionally, the Payroll Analyst will collaborate with the HRIS team to oversee the development, testing, and implementation of payroll system enhancements. This position requires a demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization to ensure precise and timely payment of employees.

What You Contribute:

  • Manage all payroll activities, including off-cycle payrolls, ensuring compliance with tax and legal requirements.
  • Administer garnishments, court-ordered withholdings, and voluntary deductions.
  • Oversee taxation requirements for nonresident alien employees.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of federal, state, and local taxation.
  • Hands-on experience with multi-state payroll processes.
  • Support strategies to enhance payroll efficiency and control.
  • Perform journal entries, account reconciliations, and generate payroll reports.
  • Ensure adherence to wage and hour laws, SOX, and other regulations.
  • Resolve escalated payroll issues and provide expert guidance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and respond to employee inquiries.
  • Handle final payments for employees in states with immediate pay requirements.
  • Assist with bonuses, year-end adjustments, and other special payrolls.
  • Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Engage in payroll-related projects and initiatives.
  • Recommend and implement payroll system improvements.
  • Develop and conduct training for team members.
  • Stay updated on Workday developments and recommend improvements

What You’re Good At:

  • Associate’s degree in a business-related discipline required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • FPC or CPP Certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of related work experience, including a minimum of 3 years in multi-state payroll and 2 years in the non-profit sector, particularly with organizations receiving federal awards and covered by OMB/Uniform Guidance requirements
  • In-depth understanding of payroll procedures and payroll tax regulations.
  • Knowledge of California payroll laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in payroll software, specifically Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, and ADP Smart Compliance.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with software testing, tools, utilities, and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Excel (v-lookups and Pivot tables).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (listening, verbal, written).
  • Ability to train others with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Strong ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
  • Ability to work independently, draw conclusions from analysis, and guide management in assessing outcomes.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively with minimal supervisory oversight.
  • Desire and ability to learn new technical skills and technologies.
  • Work effectively within Microsoft Teams and independently in a customer-oriented, deadline-driven environment.
  • Collaborate closely with HR, Benefits, HRIS, and Accounting teams.
  • Ability to prepare written training materials, documentation, FAQs, and various how-to’s.
  • Develop and conduct training for team members.
  • Ability to manage payroll functions in a fast-paced, complex, and demanding environment.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to various sites.

The salary range is $63,744 - $106,723. Salary is determined based on qualifications and relevant experience.
