Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Key job responsibilities
This Structural Liaison Engineer must have Material Review Board (MRB) experience in aerospace programs, and must be able to understand the balance between engineering judgment versus analysis rigor and when each is appropriate.
• Review and disposition non-conformance events related to the structural integrity of the spacecraft and its ground support equipment that may occur in all phases of the Kuiper operations: procurement, storage, handling, manufacturing, assembly, testing, transportation, final integration, launch and orbital operations
• Develop standard repairs, rework procedures, propose design for manufacturing (DFM) improvements, improved processes and work instructions;
• Perform research and analysis to support engineering decisions and recommendations
• Generate and review technical documents, including drawings, specifications, and reports
• Develop standard methods to address common structural non-conformances
• Work with Quality, Design, Manufacturing, Structural Engineering and experts from other engineering fields to provide root cause failure analyses
• Interact with internal customers, external customers, and suppliers;
• Take initiative and proactively seek out opportunities to improve processes and procedures
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the life
In this role, you’ll join the Kuiper Structural Analysis team Material Review Board (MRB) to innovate and solve engineering issues that arise during Kuiper operations leading to every flight of our constellation of satellites. You will work hard, have fun, and make history!
This Structural Liaison/MRB Engineer will be providing engineering support to resolve structural engineering issues that arise during manufacturing and assembly processes, quality inspection and acceptance tests, through the application of engineering and design principles, consulting the structural development teams as needed.
About the team
The Structural Material Review Board team is part of the Kuiper Structural Integrity and Analysis teams (Structural Analysis, Loads and Dynamics, Materials and Processes and Reliability) that is ultimately responsible for Integrity of not only the spacecraft but all other commodities supporting the program, inside and outside of the Mechanical Engineering group.
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience in a Structural Liaison Engineer / Material Review Board (MRB) role with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Strong fundamentals in structural dynamics (modal, frequency response, random vibration, sine and acoustic analyses/tests)
- Experience with fatigue and fracture analyses
- Knowledge of or experience with spacecraft technology and related primary, secondary and tertiary structures
- Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
- Strong understanding or Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
- Strong understanding of ANSI Y14.5M-1994 (drawing interpretation)
- Experience with Siemens Products (Teamcenter, NX, NX Nastran)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in engineering field, or equivalent experience- 5+ years of demonstrated experience in a Structural Liaison Engineer / Material Review Board (MRB) role with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production- Experience with the project management of technical projects
