What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an Engineering Support Technologist to join our dynamic team! As part of the Neutron Tube Value Stream team your responsibilities include cleaning, plating, brazing, welding, and inspecting subassemblies in preparation for use in built up neutron tubes.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Perform initial diagnostics on nonconformances, monitor area health, identify ways to increase yields, and mistake-proof processes.
- Support and implement corrective or preventative actions.
- Seek out and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support programs associated with automated production equipment.
- Implement new manufacturing technologies or equipment.
- Be involved with new process/equipment development and qualification.
- Maintain written work instructions.
- Ensure accurate training of operators.
Due to the nature of work, successful candidate must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range:
$72,800 - $140,600
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Associate's Degree in a STEM field plus 2 or more years of experience; or equivalent combination of experience/education.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance
- Experience working in a lab environment
Qualifications We Desire:
- Experience in a production environment
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Experience with materials science
- Experience with procurement and qualification of equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining production equipment.
- Experience working in cleanroom environments.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high quality manufacturing environment.
- Strong technical communications skills, both verbal and written via Microsoft Office.
- Experience creating work instructions, operating procedures, and technical drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor process health and conduct failure analyses.
- Experience with process improvement, including a Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.
- Commitment to a culture of safety and security.
- Experience transitioning products and equipment from conceptual design to manufacturing.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a team environment that includes operators, technical staff, team leaders and other technologists.
About Our Team:
The Neutron Tube Value Stream, (Department 7562) is the sole source manufacturer of neutron tubes for our customers in the Nuclear Weapon Enterprise. Our responsibilities include manufacturing, planning, configuration control, and the establishment and maintenance of schedules to assure that the need for neutron tubes is met. We establish and maintain a work environment that is safe and environmentally benign, foster respect for employees, promote open communication, and ensure that work results in quality products delivered on-time at promised cost or less. The NTSA floor (7562-3) is responsible for transforming piece parts into built subassemblies. Our responsibilities include cleaning, plating, brazing, welding, and inspecting subassemblies in preparation for use in built up neutron tubes.

Security Clearance:

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Position Information:
This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
