The application of system safety engineering results in the definition of system safety requirements throughout the life cycle for any system. When properly applied, these requirements enable the identification and management of hazards and their associated risks during system developmental and sustaining engineering activities. The application includes utilizing the MIL-STD-882E order of precedence to meet safety requirements, adequately characterizing the safety significance, and integrating precepts early in the program help establish and engrain safety requirements and criteria throughout the life cycle.

- Provide leadership for SNL System Safety to ensure all aspects of the CPS system safety program are defined, communicated, and executed.
- Serve as the focal point for System Safety activities and ensure that safety efforts are closely coordinated, aligned with program management and industry, and safety tasks are completed.
- Ensure adequate safety scope, technical approach, and coordination to eliminate or mitigate hazards identified using the MIL-STD-882E safety order of precedence.
- Develop a System Safety Program Plan (SSPP) to present the System Safety approach and safety tasks for developing and integrating the Hypersonic Glide Body (HGB) into the CPS Weapon System (WS) and associated launch platforms.
- Support working groups to facilitate System Safety collaboration within cross-functional forums.
- Software Safety Subgroup
- Flight Systems Safety (FSS) Subgroup
- Platform Integration Safety Subgroup
- Battery and Initiator Safety and Certification Subgroup (SCSG)
- Parts, Materials, Processes (PMP) Working Group
- Coordinate communication of Technical Data Packages (TDP)/Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) supporting Joint Services Weapon Safety Review (JSWSR) and Safety Review Authority Review, such as:
- Navy Weapon System Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB)
- Joint Services - Fuse and Ignition System Safety Authorities (JS-FISSA)
- Joint Services - Software Safety Authorities (JS-SSA)
- Joint Services - Insensitive Munitions Technical Panel (JS-IMTP)
- Navy Insensitive Munitions Office (IMO)
- Munitions Response Evaluation Board (MREB)
- Army Fuze Safety Review Board (AFSRB)
- Software System Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP)
- Fuze and Initiation System Technical Review Panel (FISTRP)

- Advise and update SNL Leadership, LM, GNT, IP on all matters pertaining to System Safety, to include development and communication of schedules, milestones, deliverables, and plan of action (i.e., POA&M).
- Support as needed requirements derivation, analysis, including technical risk assessments, identification of design issues and risks, design trade-offs, and validation and verification (V&V) activities.
- Support for major program reviews, with development and delivery of system safety engineering-related briefings.
- Support System Safety screening, analysis, and recommendations to proposed HGB design, engineering, and part changes.
- Contribute, as needed, to various program safety events such as Technical Interchange Meetings (TIM), Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings, Safety Summits, In-Process Reviews (IPR), Action Item (AI) reviews, Failure Review Boards (FRB), System Engineering Technical Review (SETR) panels, Risk and Opportunity Management Boards (ROMB), requirements review, and ad-hoc working groups.
- Conduct preliminary analysis to identify, classify, and mitigate safety hazards associated with the Hypersonic Glide Body (HGB) as a system element of the Weapon System (WS) and its integration within an overall weapon system-of-systems (SoS) and host platform(s) at any stage in its respective lifecycle.
Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must be able to work onsite.
