Research Technician I/II - Hughes Lab

Department: Aging & Metabolism
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Position Overview and Responsibilities
The Hughes Lab is seeking a motivated Research Technician at the I or II level to support studies on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate skeletal muscle size and function, particularly in the context of disease and aging. One interest of the laboratory is understanding the role of post-translational modifications, such as ubiquitination and acetylation, in protein turnover and complex assembly. This work involves the use of in vitro and in vivo models with a variety of laboratory techniques to advance our understanding of muscle biology.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Processing tissue samples, including immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation and protein digestion.
  • Rodent surgical procedures and dissecting muscle tissue for analysis.
  • Participating in lab meetings and departmental discussions
    Minimum Requirements
  • BS/BA degree in one of the biological sciences, physics, chemistry, or related area, or equivalent years of relevant lab experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and protocols/procedures.
  • Ability to write routine reports, correspondence and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to handle laboratory mice and rats, including breeding, maintenance, and procedures as needed.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Highly organized and meticulous to ensure accuracy of data collection and recording.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and initiative to solve problems.
    Preferred Qualifications
    Candidates with a strong background in protein biochemistry and proteomics are strongly encouraged to apply.
    Expertise in any of the following areas is highly valued:
  • Proteomic Sample Preparation (Peptide Enrichment, Protein digestion)
  • Cell Culture (Cell lines, Plasmid Transfections)
  • Molecular Biology (Genotyping, RNA work, RT-qPCR, Immunoblotting)
    Work Hours
    Typically, Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM. Occasional work outside these hours may happen with advanced notice.
