The Senior Manager, Respiratory Therapy - Pulmonary Function Testing will provide operational and clinical oversight for a busy diagnostic service - more than 120,000 pulmonary function tests are performed by the national network of PFT laboratories in the Cleveland Clinic Health System. The Senior Manager will ensure the delivery of accurate, reliable pulmonary function testing—including but not limited to spirometry, lung volumes, DLCO, and bronchodilator assessments, CPET, FOT—while maintaining a strong focus on patient access, workflow efficiency, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. This role emphasizes hands-on leadership in very close collaboration with the PFT Medical Director, the team of supervisors of the PFT laboratories as well as with the leadership of the pulmonary division, with a specific focus on staff development, activities related to PFT across the enterprise and coordination between outpatient and inpatient services.

A caregiver in this position works Monday—Friday, from 8:00am—5:30pm.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited too:

Operational and Clinical Oversight

  • Ability manage the daily operations of the PFT Labs, ensuring timely scheduling, appropriate staffing, and efficient patient throughput.

  • Ensure that all testing meets ATS/ERS standards and hospital policies.

  • Provide guidance to RTs on quality criteria, calibration procedures, and troubleshooting equipment.

Staff Management and Training

  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates PFT technologists.

  • Ensures consistent application of testing protocols and documentation standards.

  • Promotes a positive work environment and fosters ongoing skill development.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Maintains digital QC logs, calibration records, and technician competency files.

  • Prepares for accreditation surveys (Joint Commission, State health agencies).

  • Ensures full compliance with infection control standards and HIPAA guidelines.

  • Technical Support and Coordination - Overseeing more than 100 PFT related systems across our national and international sites.

  • Manage the IT aspect of vendor service agreements, achieving cost savings and ensuring security compliance in collaboration with Cybersecurity.

Technical Leadership: Oversees PFT software, hardware, and data workflows, including EMR integration.

  • Collaborates with IT, clinical engineering, and vendor support to resolve equipment or connectivity issues.

  • Implements updates to reference equations or reporting templates as needed.

  • Manage clinical systems supporting the entirety of the revenue stream coming from all PFT departments.

  • Implement novel workflows using Python and other MS application tools. Managing constant software updates and upgrades (Epiphany v7.0, Ascent v2.0).

  • Ability to design and maintain complex, multi-platform dashboards (Tableau, Teradata, Snowflake, SQL). Ensure data integrity across the entire bidirectional data flow chain (Workstations <-> Epic)

  • Clinical Informatics: ability to analyze and optimize electronic medical record messaging standards (HL7 and PDF workflow). Collaborate with clinicians to design and test end-user UI and workflows to ensure continuity of care.

  • Risk Management: Maintain documentation and standards for disaster recovery and downtime operations, including participation in enterprise-wide exercises.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy

  • 8 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist in critical care, medical/surgical, emergency department, cardiology or neurology function

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentialing through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

  • Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) License

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT / RPFT) credentialing through the NBRC, or the ability to obtain credentialing within the first 3 years.

Physical Requirements:

  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.

  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum Annual Salary: $92,620.00

Maximum Annual Salary: $141,265.00
