Summary

The Center for Precision Environmental Health at Baylor College of Medicine has an exceptional opportunity for a Senior Health Educator. The position will lead community interactions as part of the Community Engagement Core of the NIH P30ES030285; which seeks to study how the environment influences health. The CPEH encourages and advocates for professional development, including participation in professional administration organizations, and is supportive of candidates seeking pertinent certifications. This position may also contribute to the implementation of an ongoing community-engaged environmental health research study by supporting a well-established research team’s effort in terms of stakeholder and study participant engagement. This position will also contribute to planning, developing, and implementing communication and outreach efforts for the Military Exposures Research Program (MERP). The MERP supports investigators by providing funding and resources to military exposures researchers and aims to understand military occupational and environmental exposures to inform Veteran care and policy.

Job Duties

  • Designs and leads Encuentros and SCI Café discussions on critical public health issues, promoting community-driven solutions.
  • Coordinates and implements activities such as community outreach and education programming to increase awareness of various health screenings, interventions, and research.
  • Translates scientific findings as the basis for education and outreach programs.
  • Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with agencies and organizations.
  • Conducts policy needs assessments and develops operational plans and policies necessary to achieve health education objectives and services.
  • Collaborates with health specialists and civic groups to determine community health needs and the availability of services, and to develop goals for meeting needs.
  • Establishes relationships and outreach activities.
  • Assists in planning, developing, and implementing MERP communications plan.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between external stakeholders and MERP personnel and initiatives, determining appropriate content, format, and communication cadence.
  • Creates and maintains community partner databases and tracks outreach activities.
  • Generates reports to document the achievement of program milestones.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Community Health, Behavioral Science or a related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MPH, MS, MHS) in one of these areas with substantial research experience.
  • Knowledge of research methodology, especially community-engaged research.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects at the same time and the ability to function well under deadlines.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in community engaged and community-based participatory research activities.
  • Experience with IRB protocols related to ensuring the adequate protection of human subjects.
  • Strong communication (oral and written) skills with all levels of employees.
  • Computer software and word processing skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to respond effectively to time-sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Flexibility and the ability to multi-task.
