Phlebotomy Technicians are essential members of the medical laboratory team, responsible for theaccurateand efficient collection of blood samples from patients. Because many individuals—children, teens, and adults alike—may feel anxious or fearful about needles or the blood-draw process, skilled phlebotomists play a critical role in creating a calm, reassuring experience. By usingstrong communicationskills, empathy, and proper technique, they help put patients at ease while obtaining high-quality specimens.
There is also significant opportunity for professional growth within the department, including roles such as Lead Phlebotomist, Team Lead, or Supervisor, as well as advancement throughout the Cleveland Clinicsystem.
A caregiver in this positionworksevenings+ on-call, from 7:00pm—11:00pm or 3:00pm—11:30pm. Every other weekend requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipunctureproceduresandmaintainappropriate logsheets.
Verify order requests andidentifyinformation prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.
Label all specimens collected and deliver them to theappropriate processingarea.
Perform specimen processing and send out tasks,including accessioning,centrifugationand packaging.
Pick up and deliver blood, other sampletypesand lab supplies.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
HighSchoolDiploma or GED
Phlebotomy Technician experience
Technicalproficiencywith standard procedures,techniquesand common practices
Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a team environment
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
FormalPhlebotomyCertification
Experience strongly preferred
Trouble shooting andproblem-solvingskills
Demonstrate the ability to work under minimal supervision
Can excel in a high-volume, fast-paced work environment
Physical Requirements:
- Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking.
- Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $17.95
Maximum hourly: $25.50
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education.
