Non-Certified CS/SPD Techniciansare responsible forcleaning andmaintainingsurgical tools and hospital equipment. It is your job to make sure that the sterilized tools are then organized into trayscontainingthe instruments required for routine or special surgeries. You are also responsible for checking equipment to make sure it is in good repair and up to date.This role will provide you with hands-on learning as well as the ability to become certified and move into higher positionswithin the organization.
A caregiver in this position worksevenings from1:00PM –9:30PM, with rotating weekend call requirements.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform case pull functions.
Demonstrate proper handling of equipment, instrumentation and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process.
Scan,sortand inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness.
Assemble,wrapand label instruments according to provided lists following documented procedures.
Ensure propercleaning, decontamination,assemblyand high-level disinfection of reusable instrumentationin accordance withAAMI ST79 standards.
Monitor andcontrolthe distribution of supplies and equipment.
Perform record-keeping functions within the electronic tracking system, including processing,sterilizationand quality assurance documentation.
Participatein in-service education.
Build case carts using electronic preference cards anddispatchthem to appropriate locations.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
HighSchoolDiploma or GED
Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER or CER) within18 monthsafter hire unless an extension is granted at the purview of leadership
Ability to use the computerized instrument tracking system to perform assigned duties
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of healthcare experience or a similar background in mechanical/manufacturing assembly
Military experience, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR),AircraftMaintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar, will be considered
Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform duties while standing, sitting, stooping, and reaching for long periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a continual basis.
Ability to push, pull, and navigate carts weighing up to 200 pounds and manual dexterity sufficient to perform the basic functions of the job.
Exposure to environments of bacterial and viral contamination, and possible exposure to sterilization gases.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
