Ensures that all hospital medications and related supplies are maintained at adequate levels to meet hospital demands and consistent with formulary, turnover, and budgetary goals. Orders drugs from wholesaler or direct from manufacturer according to departmental specifications.Job Description:
Education:
Required: High school diploma, GED or higher level degree
Licensure/Certification:
Required: California Board of Pharmacy Technician (PHT) License
Experience:
Required: Three (3) years of inpatient pharmacy experience including unit dose, IV additives, etc.
Preferred: Experience with purchasing of medication, inventory management or equivalent

1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
2. Maintains and checks inventory levels for all pharmaceuticals, IV solutions, and related dispensing supplies.
3. Purchases medications and disposable supplies through wholesalers or direct from manufacturers according to departmental specifications and buying group contracts; aids in providing availability and pricing information for items not currently on contract.
4. Ensures compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DCSCA) at the Pharmacy level.
5. Uses split billing software daily to comply with 340B program requirements and ensures medications are ordered on appropriate accounts.
6. Coordinates drug procurement operations and inventory management to ensure critical drug availability, accurate inventory value assessment, compliance to 340B program, optimized inventory turns and minimized drug expirations; monitors and manages inventory on an ongoing basis for opportunities for enhanced inventory turns and decreased expired medications.
7. Uploads direct invoices, as applicable, to the split billing software.
8. Communicates new NDC numbers ordered/received and any changes in the primary NDC ordered to the IT Team in a timely manner.
9. Performs routine inventory reconciliation, including cycle counts and par level evaluation.
10. Coordinates inventory distribution within the hospital, to other clinics and/or Pharmacies.
11. Ensures regular account maintenance, including recalls, outdated, damaged good returns, and investigates alternative suppliers for goods in short supply.
12. Accurately supports and maintains the controlled substance inventory in the Pharmacy through ordering, receiving, discrepancy resolution, transferring of overstock and quarterly inventory.
13. Collaborates with department manager to determine appropriate utilization of formulary products.
14. Assists with formulary management and statistical reports.
15. Organizes and maintains the medication receiving area and designated medication storage areas to maximize efficiency and space utilization.
16. Maintains and updates a current index of all purchasing accounts.
17. Completes monthly unit inspection of assigned locations ensuring inspection is thorough, accurate and timely.
18. Performs other duties as assigned.
