Public Health | Division of EpidemiologyThe Research Senior Technician provides independent support for a federally funded research project focused on tobacco control. This position plays a central role in the day-to-day coordination and execution of the project, including participant recruitment and enrollment, participant follow-up, data collection and management, regulatory documentation, data cleaning and coding, data analysis, manuscript writing, and other forms of dissemination. The Research Senior Technician works closely with the Principal Investigators and interdisciplinary research team to ensure studies are conducted in accordance with approved protocols, timelines, and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include participant engagement work (e.g., screening, scheduling, orientation, consent, follow-up), following a study protocol, maintaining accurate research records, cleaning and coding the baseline and follow-up data sets, cleaning and analyzing data from the ecological momentary assessment studies, analyzing data, writing manuscripts, and disseminating research findings. The Research Senior Technician assists with protocol implementation and monitors study progress to identify and resolve operational issues. This role requires independent judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize competing deadlines while maintaining compliance with institutional policies and sponsor expectations.
In addition, the Research Senior Technician contributes to broader research team functions by preparing reports and presentations and facilitating communication among internal and external collaborators. This position does not include formal supervision. The position requires demonstrated experience in human subjects research, research compliance standards, and working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic research environment. The Research Senior Technician is expected to exercise discretion, professionalism, and initiative while supporting the research.
This role offers opportunities for professional growth through involvement in publications (including leading some), grant activities, and advanced research operations.
This position is contingent upon funding and will end on or before November 30, 2026, with possibility of renewal based on continued availability of funding and performance.
Additional Information:
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
- 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED
- 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate’s degree
- 0 year of relevant experience required with Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in epidemiology or a related field, or advanced undergraduate training in statistics.
- Experience cleaning, coding, and modeling cross-sectional and longitudinal data using SAS, Stata or R
- Experience with technical writing
- Experience enrolling participants into a research study
- Experience tracking enrollment and retention metrics
- Experience working on an interdisciplinary team
Pay Range: $19.28-$25.19 per hour. This position is a 0.55 FTE role working 22 hours a week. Pay will be based off of education, experience, internal equity, and budget allowance.
