Organizes and administers Esports Varsity program. May supervise student staff and/or volunteer/assistant coaches. Will have budgetary responsibility and oversight. Will coordinate and conduct all practices and competitions, identify and recruit qualified student-athletes, develop competitive schedules, coordinate team travel and home events, and ensure compliance with governing regulations of Esports Conference(s).
Responsible for planning and directing the recruitment, training, performance, and administration of the Esports program in the manner that upholds the philosophy and objectives of the University of Wisconsin-Superior Campus Recreation Department and Division of Student Affairs. The position may also assist with departmental support and/or other unit duties as assigned.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- May assist with monitoring and auditing the unit budget
- Schedules logistics and secures resources to support the operational plans of the program
- May assist with the implementation of the personnel resource allocation plan including hiring, training, supervision, and resolution of personnel issues
- Assists with the management of applicable software systems for program registration, sport management, and participation data
- Implements risk management procedures and ensures adherence to institution and divisional policies

Additional duties specific to the position:
Promote the philosophy and objectives of the Esports program and facility; to include enforcing all departmental policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of the University, the governing Esport conference(s) agency.
Oversee the recruitment, selection, and retention of student-athletes to meet roster and enrollment expectations for the Esports program and all competitive titles offered for the term.
Ensure compliance with university admissions and governing sport conference(s) recruiting rules and regulations.
Manage and monitor the Esports budget under the supervision of the Director of Campus Recreation. Meets any revenue, sponsorship, and fundraising targets as outlined in the Esports program budget.
Develop and coordinate the Esports practice and competitive schedule within the guidelines of conference, departmental, and institutional policies.
Adhere to all departmental and University travel policies for student and coach travel.
Oversee selection, purchase, and maintenance of team and lab equipment, including competitive team uniforms, lab equipment, and supplies, conforming within rules and regulations of the University and its governing sport conference(s) per season.
Monitor and support the eligibility status of student-athletes in the Esports program and promotes the academic progress of all student-athletes. This may include collaborative work with Student Support departments across the institution.
Supervise assistant coach(es) and student employees to ensure compliance with applicable rules and lab operations, policies, and procedures outlined by the department and university.
Uphold and enforce the standards and expectations of varsity student athletes in campus and community representation. Enforce team and conference rules with appropriate disciplinary action, if needed.
Collaborate with all Campus Recreation staff members to enhance overall department operations and initiatives.
Participate in public relations activities to include speaking engagements, television and radio interviews and press conferences, as approved or requested by University Marketing or institutional requests.
Must be available/flexible to work afternoons and weekends per the scheduled lab hours, team practices, competitions, and other support of the program.
Provide additional departmental support to duties assigned by the Campus Recreation Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to recruit and retain student-athletes for the Varsity Esports program.
Knowledge of budget development, preparation, and fiscal management.
Strong people skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Proficiency in computer use and relevant applications needed for daily work.
Ability to provide leadership and instruction in the personal development of student-athletes and support staff.
Ability to resolve problems and answer questions related to the operations of the lab and Esports program.
Ability to organize workflow and coordinate activities.
Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and written.
Ability to drive a vehicle for the purpose of conducting university business and meet the criteria for operation of state-owned-vehicles – Policy 615
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
One year of direct coaching and/or demonstrated leadership at the high school level or above in relevant Esports programming and competitions.
Valid driver’s license

Desirable Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited institution
Two years or more of collegiate coaching experience in Esports, preferably head coach.
Demonstrated experience in budget management, fundraising initiatives, or sponsorship experience.
Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this position is: $44,000-$48,000 annually.
