Position Purpose:
This position is responsible for promoting improved patient care outcomes through coordinating effective orientation, education, evaluation and ongoing development of all support, technical and nursing colleagues. This is accomplished through a combination of direct patient care and unitbased education responsibilities (approximately 50/50). This position accepts the responsibility and accountability for the delivery of patient care with the multidisciplinary team while using the nursing process and maintaining professional nursing standards.
What you will Do:
A. Coordinates and facilitates orientation activities in collaboration with preceptor, clinical leader and director.
B. Facilitates and provides educational and clinical experiences for colleagues to develop and maintain skills and competencies.
C. Serves as a validator, super-user, and/or trainer for annual competencies, equipment, processes, standard work, etc.
D. Maintains accurate unit-based education records.
E. Collaborates with director in the development and implementation of department education plan.
F. Collaborates with director to: a. Ensure educational outcomes of liaison meetings (i.e. skin care, safety, infection prevention, etc.) are completed, and serve as back up for liaison when needed. b. Ensure educational outcomes of nursing shared governance council meetings are completed and serves as back up.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Education [formal]:
1. Graduate of a program in professional nursing.
2. Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa, or qualified multi-state license required.
3. BSN required or completed within 5 years.
4. Certification in area of practice (i.e., CCRN) preferred (from the Magnet approved certifications).
B. Experience:
1. Minimum of 3 years professional nursing experience required
2. Demonstrates expertise in all aspects of the nursing care setting.
C. Special Skills and Competencies:
1. Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and flexibility to meet department needs.
2. Ability to work flexible hours to meet department and colleague educational needs.
3. Self-motivated, detail oriented individual able to work with minimum supervision.
4. Strong technology skills including software (i.e.: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, audio/video equipment, and Electronic Medical Record).
5. Excellent collaboration and organizational skills.
6. Excellent communication skills, including public speaking and written skills. 7. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
8. High degree of initiative and judgment.
