Job Description

Performs duties appropriate to a Licensed Mental Health Provider and maintains confidentiality in this process as required by law and BID-Milton Hospital.
Offers assessment, evaluation and recommendations to pre-operative patients seeking Bariatric Surgery services. Additionally, offers assessment, evaluation, group therapy and potential recommendations to patients’ post-bariatric surgery and those seeking medical weight management services.

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery and Medical Director of Obesity Medicine and Program Manager and Director, assumes the following responsibilities:

  • Assures the safety of the patient population served bydemonstratingage-appropriate skills in assessing,implementingand evaluating plans of care.
  • Performs psychological evaluation for the preoperative bariatric patient and provides a formal written evaluation and interpretation of data as to the patient’s readiness and ability tomakean informed decisionregardingsurgery as a major lifestyle change.
  • Participates inmultidisciplinaryteam meetings to discuss challenging patients, office dynamics, and/or seek supervision on cases from program physicians.Communicates findings of evaluations to multidisciplinary team and others asappropriate.
  • Participates in thedevelopment,implementation, and evaluation of plans for psychiatric care for the patient, including but notlimitedto, smoking cessation, substance use/abuse, eatingdisorders, cannabis use.
  • Provides psychological support to post-operativebariatric patients and medical weight management patients surrounding psychosocial issues/stressors, including but not limited to addressingpsychopathology, body image, self-esteem, social support, quality of life, marital adjustments, sexual functioning.
  • Participateand lead various group meetings, including but not limited to supportgroupsand specialized focus groups to benefit the patient population.
  • Works in collaboration with the medical staff, theComprehensive Weight Managementmultidisciplinary team, and with communitycare providers for letters of support, recommendations to care plansand collateral for existing treatment plans.
  • Provides short-term psychosocial counseling and crisis intervention for patientswho are experiencingacutemajor life adjustments due tochanges resulting frombariatric surgery and/ormedical weight loss.
  • Recommendsneededmedical and/or psychiatric post-hospital services. Provides consultation/education for theComprehensive Weight Management Teamwhen patients need comprehensive psychosocial assessments, counseling, or whenrecommendations areneededforpsychiatric care, substance abuse rehabilitation, or in cases of domestic violence, child, elder, or disabled person abuse, or in other urgent psychosocial situations.
  • Complies withthe Department’s documentation standards for the medical record and the internal case files.
  • Maintain andupdatesknowledge and skills in clinical specialty.
  • Adheres to MBSAQIP Accreditation Guidelines required for Psychological Care of the Bariatric Surgery patient as well as assists in the preparation for Program Accreditation.
  • Attends professional conferences and workshops to keep abreast of current clinical interventions, regulations, and resources pertinent to the delivery of care for mental and/or behavioral health,as well as to maintain licensure.
  • Attends work-related education programs asrequired.
  • Attends mandatory education programs required by the organization.
  • Maintains membership in a related professional organization.
  • Performs all dutiesin accordance withthe laws, rules, and regulations set forth byappropriate regulatoryand government agencies, andin accordance withestablished departmental and hospital policies and procedures to promote the safety and health of the worker, co-workers, patients, and visitors in Beth Israel Deaconess Milton.
  • May berequiredto perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency,temporaryor limited basis as assigned.

Pay Range:

$31.82 - $98,280.00

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geographyof work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
