Hiring Department
The University of Texas Permian Basin's Police Department welcomes applications for the position of Dispatcher / Telecommunicator

Salary Range
$40,000.00 depending on qualifications
Essential Functions
The Police Telecommunicator supports campus public safety operations by receiving, prioritizing, and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for service at The University of Texas Permian Basin. This position serves as a critical communication link between the public and emergency responders by coordinating police, fire, and medical services, monitoring field activity, and maintaining accurate records within dispatch systems. Working in a fast-paced environment, the role manages multiple tasks simultaneously while supporting campus safety through effective communication, system monitoring, and coordination of response activities.
1. Answers Emergency 911 and non-emergency telephone calls for police, security, and technical support
events and services.
2. Enters information concerning calls for technical support and security-related patrol activity into a Computer
Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to be forwarded to the appropriate police dispatch station for assignment.
3. Forwards calls received in the Police Communications Center to the appropriate office of the UTPD.
4. Monitors CCTV for situations indicating a need for law enforcement or security response and forwards the
information to the appropriate police dispatch station to initiate a proper response.
5. Composes and distributes shift and found property logs and performs other police communication center
paperwork.
Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Current Driver's License with reliable transportation.
3. Basic Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Telecommunications Operator license or is
qualified to acquire a basic license.
4. Applicants must successfully complete a Public-Safety Telecommunication (PST) Test. The recommended testing is the International Personnel Management Association (IPMA) Public Safety Telecommunications Test of CritiCall. This testing will be administered by the Police Department.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Associate's degree or thirty credit hours in Criminal Justice or related field.
2. One-year experience in a public safety or emergency communications field.
3. General knowledge of typing

Schedule
Telecommunicators work as part of a patrol shift which consists of a long week (60) hours and a short week (24) in 12 hour shifts allowing two days off one week and 5 days off the following week. This schedule ensures all employees receive every other weekend off unless other assigned duties dictate. Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.
Standard Working Conditions
1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
