Job Summary
General SummaryThe Radiation Therapy Manager provides leadership and oversight for the treatment machines and CT Simulator within the Department of Radiation Oncology at Cooley Dickenson Hospital (CDH). This role is responsible for managing Radiation Therapists and Lead Radiation Therapists while ensuring high-quality, safe and efficient patient care.
Serving as both a technical and clinical expert, the Radiation Therapy Manager oversees treatment delivery, simulation processes, patient scheduling, and department operations. The position plays a key role in maintaining clinical excellence, optimizing workflows, and supporting a collaborative care environment.
The incumbent collaborates closely with radiation therapy leaders across the MGB system to drive integration efforts, promote standardization, and support system-wide initiatives.
This role reports directly to the Director of Cancer Services
Qualifications
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
Ensuresthe proper level of staffing is provided within all treatment areas and provides coverage as needed.
Reviews Schedules tomonitorpatient volumes
Works with Lead Therapists in developing new techniques or resolving clinical problems.
Resolvesdifficult set-ups and instruct staff members in this area
Practices continuous improvement and standardization of techniques
Assistsin Managing the triage of emergent cases, coordinates all on-call activities, and negotiates scheduling of patients with other care team members.
Responsible for the safe andaccurateutilizationof all aspects of the electronic medical record (EMR) and Record and Verify system.
Demonstrates the ability to teach andassistothers in the proper use of the system.
Possesses an advanced knowledge base and ability to accurately perform and teach allnew startQA measures, weekly chart checks, scheduling, treatment, image review, and billing procedures involving the EMR system.
Managesteamduring equipment failures and notifies patients as well as all functional areas of the department.
Administrative Responsibilities
Keeps abreastof CDH institutionalinitiatives that may need to dovetail with program implementations.
Responsible formaintainingand ordering radiation treatment supplies and immobilization devices, workingwith vendors to organize training sessions for staffwhen needed.
Works with others to develop, revise, implement andmaintainpolicies and procedures pertinent to external beam treatments, andnew programsand personnel.
Ensures radiation therapist competence and compliance with mandatory annual competencies, including, but not limited to: Specific machine techniques and procedures, department policies and procedures, and other activities and techniques that arise as practices change.
Participates in the departmental Quality Improvement (QI) committee.
Assistwith developing, collecting data, and presenting QI initiatives pertinent to the departmental treatment activities.
Performs annual merit reviews for radiation therapists.
Maintain a comprehensive orientation plan for new therapy staff
Recruit / hire highly skilled Radiation Therapist staff.
Coordinates and adapts to contingency plans, which are in response to variables in patient volume.
Works with Director to assess financial resources, operational budget, and capital expenditures, related toCDHtherapist staffing
Hold regularly scheduled staff meetings
Responsible formaintainingcompliance andparticipatingin all readiness related to:

Must have proficient technical knowledge and skill set. This includes but is not limited todemonstratingefficient knowledge of all equipment operation, tools, and procedures specific to assignedarea. This also includesdemonstratingthe ability to effectively troubleshoot issues as they arise.
