The Infection Preventionist II collaborates with caregivers, leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and sustain effective infection prevention and control (IPC) strategies across the organization. This role applies specialized knowledge of infection prevention principles, surveillance methodologies, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practices to support patient and caregiver safety. Responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing infection-related data, conducting surveillance activities, supporting outbreak investigations, educating caregivers on infection prevention practices, assisting with regulatory and accreditation readiness, and partnering with clinical and operational teams to reduce healthcare-associated infections and promote a culture of safety and quality. The Infection Preventionist serves as a key resource for infection prevention initiatives while continuing to develop advanced expertise within the field.
This is a part-time role averaging 20 hours per week. A caregiver in this role will work days + on-call from 9:00am to 5:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Implements and monitors IPC program and practices.
- Collaborates to align IPC program goals with organizational goals.
- Pursues opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Provides mentorship to IPs.
- Applies epidemiologic principles and uses appropriate benchmarks.
- Applies fundamental statistics and/or data tools to detect clusters and outbreaks.
- Evaluates the significance of surveillance and investigation findings to make recommendations for improvement.

- Evaluates the effectiveness of the surveillance plan and modifies, as necessary.
- Collaborates to evaluate communicable disease and occupational related exposures, review communicable disease work restrictions and other IPC related data and policies.
- Creates education program(s) to meet the needs and learning styles of the audience.
- Conducts IPC assessments and/or rounding and communicates findings and recommendations.
- Identifies deficiencies in cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization.
- Collects and aggregates data/information for outbreak detection and response management.
- Supports antimicrobial stewardship through analysis of surveillance and resistant organism data.
- Comply with regulatory and mandatory reporting requirements at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Facilitate compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Uses surveillance technology to identify disease and illness trends.
- Validates electronic surveillance system to ensure accurate data as needed.
- Utilizes applicable reporting systems as required.
- Performs data management, analysis, and visualization.
- Leads interdisciplinary quality improvement teams as a subject matter expert in IPC.
- Participates with analysis to identify system failure elements and areas of improvement.
- Uses data and statistical techniques to describe data, calculate risk-adjusted rates and establish benchmarks.
- Critically evaluates findings and make recommendations for improvement.
- Performs risk assessments and develops action plans that include goals and measurable objectives.
- Advocates for safe practices and policies consistent with current best evidence when developing policies.
- Consults and collaborates as needed with local, state, and federal public health officials, healthcare facilities, and community health organizations.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to influence behavior change to improve IPC practices.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Bachelor’s degree in health science, healthcare delivery, public health, laboratory science, or related field
- Maintain Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc.
- Three (3) to Five (5) years of infection prevention experience
- Strong communication, clinical assessment, and computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs)
Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
- May require extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting.
- Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are more than those for Light Work.
- Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires frequent standing and walking.
- Requires normal or corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
- Requires exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
- 24/7 availability via pager for consultation.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $33.46
Maximum hourly: $51.03

A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education.
