The Mohs Technologist is responsible for the accurate processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining of fresh skin tissue using a cryostat to produce high‑quality microscope slides for Mohs micrographic surgery. This role requires the ability to work efficiently under strict time constraints to support real-time surgical decision-making. The ideal candidate demonstrates expert knowledge of histologic techniques, maintains laboratory equipment, and exhibits exceptional attention to detail and manual dexterity. Strict adherence to CLIA, OSHA, and all applicable laboratory safety standards is required.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Tissue Processing: Accurately embed, section, and stain frozen tissue specimens in a timely manner to support Mohs micrographic surgery.

  • Slide Preparation: Prepare and coverslip histologic slides for immediate review by the Mohs surgeon.

  • Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, with particular emphasis on cryostats and staining instruments.

  • Documentation: Maintain precise specimen records, map tissue samples, and accurately document patient and case information.

  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and all applicable regulatory and safety standards.

  • Operational Support: Set up the laboratory environment, monitor inventory, and ensure adequate supplies are maintained to support daily operations.

EDUCATION:

AS or BS; HT or HTL ASCP Certification preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience in anatomic pathology preferred.
