The Health System Engineer plays a pivotal role within MUSC Health Performance Services, leading the charge in driving Performance Transformation initiatives. This pivotal role is responsible for spearheading the identification, diagnosis, and design of solutions aimed at addressing major opportunities for improvement within our health system. Additionally, the role supports developing and executing goal management and standard work plans across MUSC Health. Regular communication with Senior Management ensures alignment on project specifics and technical analyses.

Job Description

Reporting directly to MUSC Health Performance Services leadership, the Health System Engineer collaborates closely with executive, divisional, and ICCE (Integrated Centers of Clinical Excellence)/Service-Line leadership to support the organization's priorities in process improvement and standardization. A critical aspect of this role involves crafting and executing a strategic vision for Performance Transformation, ensuring alignment with MUSC Health's overarching goals, objectives, and key priorities.

In collaboration with cross-functional teams, the Health System Engineer provides technical expertise in process optimization, waste reduction, and enhancing patient outcomes, all aimed at delivering high-quality healthcare services.The position facilitates the coordination of large multi-disciplinary groups comprising senior and clinical leadership to drive collective progress and achieve organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Performance AnalysisandProcess Improvement:(40%)

  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of health system processes, workflows, and outcomes.

  • Utilize data analytics and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to monitor system performance.

  • Design and implement process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, or other improvement methodologies to streamline processes.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and test new strategies and interventions.

  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure successful adoption of performance improvement initiatives.

Project Management:(40%)

  • Lead and manage performance improvement projects from initiation through completion.

  • Define project scope, objectives, timelines, and deliverables.

  • Coordinate resources, manage risks, and ensure project milestones are met.

  • Prepare and present reports on project progress, outcomes, and performance metrics to senior leadership.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including clinical staff, management, and external partners.

Technology Integration:(20%)

  • Evaluate and recommend technological solutions to improve system performance and patient outcomes.

  • Work with IT and clinical teams to implement and optimize health information systems and electronic health records (EHRs).

Additional Job Description

Position Requirements:

  • Education:Bachelor’s degree inIndustrialEngineering, Healthcare Management, or a related field;Master’sdegree preferred.

  • Experience:Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in performance improvement, process engineering, or a related role within a healthcare setting.

  • Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques.

  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies.

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Certifications:Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
