We are looking for a Health Education Specialist to support the Cancer Center’s Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) efforts to reduce cancer burden and improve outcomes across the Greater Los Angeles region. You will lead community-focused health education initiatives by developing culturally tailored materials and delivering evidence-based cancer education programs. You will also serve as a key liaison between the cancer center and diverse community partners, promoting cancer screening, clinical trial awareness, and research engagement through outreach events, mobile screenings, and health fairs.

In addition, you will play a central role in building and coordinating community partnerships and executing public health programs, including planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role requires strong expertise in public health education, along with excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills. As part of City of Hope’s staff leadership model, you will actively contribute to program development, departmental initiatives, and cross-functional outreach, while helping to advance the department’s visibility and impact within the organization and broader community.

As a successful candidate, you will:

· Design and deliver culturally tailored cancer education curricula, workshops, and materials that address prevention, early detection, and risk factors.

· Translate complex clinical and research information into accessible, community-friendly education tools and presentations.

· Plan, implement, and evaluate community health programs while tracking outreach activities, engagement, and impact for reporting and continuous improvement.

· Lead health education workshops and presentations across community settings, including schools, clinics, and faith-based organizations.

· Promote cancer screening, prevention resources, and evidence-based interventions, including HPV vaccination and tobacco cessation.

· Represent the cancer center at community events, coordinating logistics, outreach strategies, and engagement efforts.

· Conduct outreach to increase awareness of screening services, mobile units, and clinical trial opportunities, while helping individuals navigate access to care.

· Build and sustain partnerships with community organizations and support community-engaged research, including recruitment, dissemination, and collaborative initiatives.

Your qualifications should include:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education, Public Health, Health Sciences, Health Promotion, Community Education or related field. Masters degree preferred.

· 2 years of professional Health Education experience is required.

· Experience working with underserved communities in the Greater Los Angeles area.

· Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or obtain within six months of hire is required.

· Bilingual proficiency in languages commonly spoken in Greater Los Angeles area is preferred.

· Experience delivering community-based health education across public health, nonprofit, and school settings, with a focus on culturally responsive engagement and outreach.

· Experience developing and implementing cancer-related programs and educational materials, leveraging bilingual skills to effectively reach and support diverse populations.

· Knowledge of community-engaged research, patient navigation, and population health principles, with familiarity in NCI COE expectations and cancer screening guidelines.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $33.80 - $52.29 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
