The Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope has an opening for a Research Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research, joining the laboratory of Dr. Ravi Salgia.

Dr. Ravi Salgia’s laboratory at City of Hope advances precision oncology through basic, translational, and clinically integrated research focused on thoracic malignancies and biomarker driven investigation. Embedded within the Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research, the lab supports funded studies, collaborative projects, and high impact publications that connect mechanistic discovery with clinically meaningful application. This role will help expand scientific depth, sustain research momentum, and support the translation of laboratory findings into improved strategies for cancer care.

As a successful candidate, you will:

· Lead and support complex laboratory studies in thoracic oncology, molecular biomarkers, and translational cancer research.

· Design rigorous experiments, interpret multifaceted data sets, and help align laboratory findings with clinical research goals.

· Contribute to hypothesis generation, assay development or optimization, and scientific planning across active projects.

· Provide senior scientific guidance for concurrent studies, helping the lab meet milestones, publication goals, and grant commitments.

· Collaborate with investigators, clinicians, and research staff to strengthen the integration of mechanistic and translational work.

· Mentor junior scientists, trainees, and staff while promoting strong practices in documentation, reproducibility, and experimental rigor.

· Support the lab’s continued growth by advancing high quality science that can inform future therapies and precision medicine strategies.

Your qualifications should include:

· PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in cancer biology, molecular biology, translational science, or a related field, with a strong record of peer reviewed publications and research accomplishment.

· Demonstrated expertise in experimental design, molecular and translational data interpretation, and execution of complex laboratory research workflows.

· Experience contributing to collaborative, grant supported research programs with the ability to manage multiple priorities across active studies.

· Strong communication and mentorship skills, with a commitment to scientific rigor, data integrity, and reproducible research practices.

Preferred qualifications:

· Experience in thoracic malignancies, biomarker research, precision oncology, or clinically integrated translational studies.

· Familiarity with assay development, molecular profiling, or translational platforms that support hypothesis driven cancer research.

· A record of mentoring research staff or trainees within a collaborative laboratory environment.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $100.27 - $155.49 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
