Description
We are seeking either an early-career laboratory technician or master's degree qualified laboratory manager to provide laboratory support for the Harrison Lab. This position will be responsible for supervising undergraduate laboratory projects, maintaining laboratory operations, managing inventory and purchasing, and ensuring laboratory supplies are appropriately stocked. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to maintain accurate, organized, and detailed laboratory records. Strong critical thinking skills, adaptability, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to learn are essential for success in this role.
A master's degree-qualified candidate will be expected to perform advanced laboratory activities, including data analysis and bioinformatics; histology procedures such as sample collection, processing, staining, and microscopy; tissue culture techniques including sterile technique, cell propagation, plasticware coating, cell seeding, and transfection; molecular biology workflows including plasmid preparation, qPCR, RNA immunoprecipitation, and library preparation for high-throughput sequencing applications; and protein assays such as ELISA and Western blotting. Candidates with formal training and demonstrated experience in one or more of these techniques are preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare reagents and standards according to lab SOPs.
  • Oversee maintenance & upkeep of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain complete and accurate logs containing methodological details.
  • Maintain laboratory in a clean and safe fashion.
  • Help undergraduate scholars with lab work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Data analysis and bioinformatics

  • Tissue culture experiments with cell lines and/or primary neurons
  • RNA-immunoprecipitation
  • qPCR

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, biology, neuroscience or related field required (0 to 2 years experience with above detailed lab techniques for technician level).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to collaborate well with others.
  • Critical thinking/troubleshooting skills required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be careful and detail-oriented.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize tasks.
  • Must be willing to learn new skills and deal with new and challenging situations enthusiastically.
  • Flexibility is essential.
